Product data at scale
Three hundred product rows in one CSV, rewritten in your voice, checked where it counts, imported back.
The catalog nobody finishes
Omar's 300 SKUs went in over four years, in bursts, whenever a shipment landed. Some titles read like a warehouse label. Some descriptions are two sentences a supplier wrote. About a third have no product type and one tag. He has meant to fix it since 2023, because fixing it in the admin means 300 tabs.
The whole catalog is one file. Products, Export, all products, CSV. Every title, description, tag, type and variant is in it. The audit that would have taken a week takes one upload.
Before it leaves Shopify
Delete the Cost per item column. Supplier costs are the one thing in that export that never needs to travel, and copy does not need them. Everything else stays. Handle is the key the importer matches on, Body (HTML) is the description, and SEO Description is the meta line most of the catalog is missing.
The pass
| Step | What you get |
|---|---|
| Audit the whole file | Thin, untagged and untyped products, grouped by type |
| Rewrite in batches of twenty five | An import-ready CSV in your voice |
| Read the flagged rows | The claims someone can hold you to |
| Import five, then the rest | A mistake that costs five rows, not 300 |
Batches of twenty five are the point. All 300 at once comes back faster than anyone reads, and copy nobody read is copy nobody checked.
The ten to check by hand
Every batch ends with a list of rows where a gap got filled. Those are the ones you open. Fiber content, care instructions, country of origin, anything that says a size runs large or small, and any number at all: weight, length, inseam. If the fact was not in a file you supplied, it is a guess in a confident voice. Ask for a bracketed placeholder instead of a plausible sentence and the guessing stops.
Try this
[upload the Shopify products export with the Cost per item column deleted] Audit this catalog. List every product with a description under 40 words, no product type, fewer than three tags, or an empty SEO Description. One table: handle, title, what is missing. Group it by product type and tell me which type has the most gaps. Then list every tag actually in use with a count, and point out the ones that mean the same thing in different words.
[paste 25 rows from the audit table] Rewrite the description and the SEO Description for these 25 handles in the voice from my store Project. Keep Handle and Title exactly as they are. Structure every description as two sentences on who it is for and how it fits, then fabric and care, then a fit note. Under 120 words. SEO Description under 155 characters. Return a CSV with the columns Handle, Title, Body (HTML), Tags and SEO Description. Wherever a fabric, care or fit fact is not in my files, write a bracketed placeholder and list every placeholder at the end.
[paste the tag list from the audit] Collapse this into a single vocabulary of no more than 30 tags in three groups: fabric, fit and occasion. For every tag I use today, tell me which one it becomes. Then give me a CSV with Handle and the new Tags value for the 40 products whose tags change the most, and tell me which tags I would lose entirely.
